The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) intends to spend N2 billion (about USD12m) for the Super Eagle’s participation in the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, which kicks off on June 12, 2014.
Currently the Federal Government approved N1,254,164,329. However, the budget of the team still lacks N829,893,436. Therefore the NFF appealed to the Committee on Sports at the House of Reps on March 10, 2014, Monday. The federation also hopes to get them from sponsors and fund raising events.
The NFF maintained that N2b budget shall ensure ‘smooth’ participation of the team at the event, will cover the cost of a training camp in Houston, Texas, USA, as well as bonuses and allowances of the team.
The winning bonuses for each of the player will look as follows:
- $10,000: win in group-stage match;
- $12,500: win in LAST 16 match;
- $15,000: win in a quarter-final match.
Stephen Keshi may benefit in the following way:
- $20,000: win in group-stage match;
- $22,500: win in LAST 16 match;
- $25,000: win in a quarter-final match.
The three assistants of the Head Coach will receive $15,000 per victory in the first round. Their winning bonus, as well as of other officials in the team, will also be increased by 25% for the next stages.
It would be recalled that the Super Eagles shall appear at World Cups for the fifth time. They have been drawn in the Group F, where they will clash with Bosnia-Herzegovina, Iran and Argentina.
